Most everyone I know loves to pick up a good suspense novel now and then. They are fun to read, and the writer makes it hard to put the book down. I am going to give you a few tips for writing interesting suspense fiction books of your own. You are only limited to your imagination, and how creative you can make your story and characters.
Most writers have several stories that they have started but not finished yet. Take one of those ideas but start from the end of the book. Fill in the beginning and then the middle of the book. Write interesting twists and turns for you characters to go thorough. Write it so that each turn or twist in the book is more exciting than the last. Keep you characters and your readers wondering what will happen next.
Let us talk about the two characters that every book writes about. They need to be opposites like good and evil, cowboys and Indians. These two characters are always placed against one another. The good character is loved by the readers, he is after all the good guy, and good guys win. That is what writing is, evoking an emotional response from the readers.
When writing any book, it needs to be written in such a way that we know each of the main characters. What I mean by that is to know the emotional feelings, and what the two main characters are thinking. An exciting thing to do is not telling the name of the evil guy until toward the end of the book. Make it a huge surprise for you readers. Anything that you put in the book like that, the more the readers will excited about your book.
To keep your readers interested it is imperative to develop several twists or secrets in the story of the book. Suspense writing is all about keeping your readers guessing and keeping them excited about the story line. Make the evil guy always plotting to hurt the good guy, but keep the plots that could likely happen. It is just the opposite when writing science fiction.
At this point you have a handle on the two main characters. Now you need to have some other characters to intermingle with both the main characters. You could have the good guy have a love interest, as well as friends. I could see the bad guy having characters that follow him, making him the boss. One good twist would be that the good and bad guys are friends, and no one has any idea that the bad guy could do hurt the good guy.
What makes a good suspense book worth reading? The one word answer in short is secrets in the book. One example of that would be to name the bad guy near the end of the book. This is what readers want from suspense books. The more secrets and twists you write in your book, the more likely it will be a successful book.
At this point I have given you several different things to think about as you write your next suspense fiction book. One of the things you must do is imagine yourself as the reader. This will help you in understanding if your story is gripping enough to keep the readers from putting the book down. This is how authors become recognized, and more successful.
